Accessibility at The Oaks

Everyone should be able to see what living here is like, check what is open and book a tour. This page says how the site is built, where tools from other companies come in, and how to reach a person when something gets in the way.

How this site is built

We build and test this site against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, and fix what falls short. In practice:

  • Every page has one main heading, a labeled navigation and a main content landmark, so a screen reader can move by structure instead of reading top to bottom.
  • Every photo carries alternative text that says what is in it.
  • Text is live text in fonts served from this site, never a picture of words, and it scales with your browser's zoom and text-size settings.
  • Links, buttons, menus and forms work from the keyboard. The menu and the tour form report to assistive technology whether they are open.
  • Rents and availability are rendered as text, straight from our property management system, so they can be read aloud and copied.
  • Nothing flashes, plays on its own or moves without you asking.

Tools from other companies

A few parts of the site run on software we license rather than write:

  • AppFolio powers the listings on the availability page, the online application and the resident portal.
  • Google Maps draws the map on the contact page.

We chose them because they work well, but their code is theirs. If one of them stops you, call 515-895-4020 and the leasing team will finish the step with you by phone, by email or in person: a showing, an application, a payment or a maintenance request.

Accommodations for a disability

Fair housing applies to touring, applying and living here, not only to this website. If you have a disability and need a reasonable accommodation, such as documents in another format, more time, a different way to tour, or a change to a rule or to a feature of your home, tell the leasing office. Call 515-895-4020 or write to us from the contact page. Requests are handled under the Fair Housing Act.

Tell us what got in your way

If any part of this site is hard to use, we want to hear about it: which page, what you were trying to do, and the browser or assistive technology you use. Call 515-895-4020 or use the contact page. Messages go to the leasing team, and what we can fix goes into the next build of the site.
